Playwright J. T. ROGERS of Brooklyn, New York, has received the 2005 Pinter Review Prize for Drama for his play MADAGASCAR. The play will be published in hardcover and paperback editions in fall 2005 by the University of Tampa Press. The winner also receives a $1,000 prize and royalties on sales of the book. Rogers was also recently selected as one of ten playwrights in the nation to receive a NEA/TCG Theatre Residency for 2004-2005, through which he is currently playwright in residence at the Salt Lake Acting Company. In addition to the Pinter Review Prize for Drama, MADAGASCAR has won the American Theatre Critics Association’s 2004 M. Elizabeth Osborne Award, and was a finalist for the ATCA’s Steinberg New Play Award. MADAGSCAR was seen this July Off Broadway as part of the SPF Summer Play Festival and at The Adirondack Theatre Festival. From September 9-October 9 it will be performed in Florida at the New Theatre in Coral Gables.

THE PINTER REVIEW PRIZE FOR DRAMA award will not be given in 2006. The prize competition has been discontinued until further notice.

1. Manuscripts may consist of one original full-length play or two or more shorter plays. Entries should be typed, with pages consecutively numbered (suggested length 85-150 pages). Clear photocopies are acceptable. Portions of the manuscript may have previously appeared in print, provided this is clearly acknowledged and that the work has not previously appeared in its entirety

2. Please submit your manuscript as loose pages held only by removable clip or rubber band and enclosed in a standard file folder. Do not staple or bind your manuscript.

3. Entries should include two title pages, one with author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if available), and one with no author information. A one-page summary of the play should also be included. Author’s name should not appear within the manuscript.

4. Include a nonrefundable handling fee of $20 for each manuscript submitted. Make check or money order payable to “University of Tampa Press.”

5. The winner will be announced in spring/summer 2005, with publication scheduled by the end of the year. Enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard for notification of receipt of manuscript, and a stamped, self-addressed envelope for notification of contest results. No manuscripts will be returned. All paper entries become property of University of Tampa Press and those not chosen will be recycled. All contestants enclosing SASE will be notified following the final selection.
